Giro d’Italia 2024, Stage 4: Acqui Terme – Andora (190 km)

Another day for sprinters at the Giro d’Italia 2024. We will move from Piedmont to Liguria with a stage, which from Acqui Terme will end, after 190 kilometers, in Andora, and which looks decidedly favorable to fast wheels. It will be, therefore, a day that can allow the men in the rankings to save precious energy in view of the continuation of the race, with only one asperity on the program, the Colle del Melogno, GPM of third category, positioned at over one hundred kilometers from the conclusion. A climb that certainly will not be able to frighten the sprinters in the race, determined to contend for this finish as well. The finale, once they reach along the Ligurian coast, will follow, all the way to the finish, the same route as Milan-San Remo.

Route Stage 4 Giro d’Italia 2024

The stage that kicks off from Acqui Terme will have a mostly flat course with 1,700 meters of elevation gain to be tackled along the 190 kilometers on the program. The first thirty kilometers will be in the province of Alessandria, with a very brief encroachment into that of Asti, before finally entering the province of Savona, with a very slightly uphill course with the first flying finish in Calizzano, located after 79.2 kilometers, which will award points for the Maglia Ciclamino, just preceding the start of the only GPM of the day, the Colle del Melogno (7.5 kilometers at 4.8%, max. 9%).

The subsequent very long descent, along which the riders will also encounter the Intergiro di Altare flying finish, will end in Savona, where the second flying finish of the day is placed, which will award bonus seconds for the general classification. From here on, until the finish, it will be all flat with the peloton following the same route as Milan-San Remo. The finale will be mostly downhill, in fact, after passing Capo Mele (1,500 meters at 5.1%), at the minus two from the finish, the road will descend with a series of semi-curves to Andora, where the finish line is located. The sprinters will have to be careful not to slip too far back in the peloton on Capo Mele, because there will be very little room to catch up, with the last 800 meters completely flat, which will allow the fast wheel formations to prepare as best they can for the sprint.
