Giro d’Italia 2024, sigh of relief at Decathlon Ag2r: nothing broken for Ben O’Connor and Damien Touzé

Decathlon Ag2r La Mondiale suffered moments of great concern on stage 4 of the Giro d’Italia 2024. Marked by a number of crashes, the stage also saw a number of men from the transalpine formation end up on the ground, with in particular the crash involving leader Ben O’Connor creating the most apprehension. Fortunately, for the Australian rider, currently 11th in the overall standings but considered among the big favorites for the final podium, there were no fractures and the crash is eventually classified as “not serious” by his team. The rider from Subiaco (an Australian city clearly named in homage to the Italian village) would therefore have gotten away with some superficial abrasions and a bruised left hip.

All in all, the balance is also reassuring for the other rider who appeared to be more affected, namely Damien Touzé, for whom the consequences are nonetheless not serious, although the impact was bigger. For him, therefore, at present, always excluding fractures following radio checks.
