Visma|Lease A Bike, Jonas Vingegaard back on bike: “I hope to be at the start of the Tour De France. I will do everything I can to be there.”

Jonas Vingegaard shows himself for the first time since his crash at the Tour of the Basque Country. A victim of a serious crash in the Spanish race, things are going in the right direction for the Dane who was finally able to ride outdoors for the first time. Showing pictures of the two-time Tour de France winner is his own lineup, which in recent days had confirmed its desire to see him at the Grande Boucle this summer, although obviously his schedule was still to be determined, depending on the evolution of his recovery.

A goal that was obviously confirmed by the Scandinavian rider, who just over a month ago fractured his collarbone and several ribs, leading to a pneumothorax for which he underwent emergency surgery and was kept under observation in the hospital for a few days before finally being given the all-clear (but not on the plane). Discharged from the hospital only on April 16, or 12 days after the accident, so three weeks have passed and we see him for the first time able to complete the first kilometers of road training.

“This is the first time I’ve been out on a bike again,” explains the Visma | Lease a Bike leader, “It’s very nice to finally be able to ride again and finally ride on the road again. I am looking forward to the next steps. I’m feeling good. The situation is improving day by day. There are still some things I need to catch up on, but it’s getting better and better.”

Confirmed then of course the big goal, which is the Grand Departure from Florence next June 29: “Of course I hope to start for the Tour de France. We still don’t know how my form will develop and how my recovery will continue, but I am doing everything I can to be in top form.”
