Worn by Tadej Pogacar during the third stage, they had immediately caused controversy, not only because of questions of taste and tradition, but also because of the possibility that they were not properly regulation. Despite the defense of RCS Sport, which jointly made the uniform with Castelli and supplied it to UAE Team Emirates for its leader to wear, it was the Slovenian rider himself who had let it be known that the UCI had contacted the team saying that he would no longer have to wear them, under penalty of disqualification from the race.
